Narrative Essay

A Dream Come True

A place where love is in the air, where peace and beauty pervade the atmosphere, where nature's perfect fusion of the sun, the sea, and the sands can be seen. Where can we find a place like this in our country currently rocked by confusion, economic crisis, and natural calamities?
Being just somebody from the southern part of the country, it is really very easy for me to imagine many wonderful places in our fatherland yet very hard of finding ways of realizing it. Yes, before, I just kept on daydreaming about the places wherein at first, I thought is very impossible for me to reach. But I was wrong. It is because unexpectedly, a one of a kind opportunity comes my way-to be able to have a trip to one of the places where I longed to visit-the island paradise of Boracay through the National Schools Press Conference to be held at Kalibo, Aklan. Upon meeting this opportunity, I never hesitated of grabbing it.
By February, I went to Aklan together with my fellow student-delegate by a ship. The ship anchored at the pier of Ilo-ilo. From Ilo-ilo, I rode on an airconditioned bus for almost six hours and finally, I reached Aklan. I'm very excited for the activities that I will be doing there. And my excitement was added when the regional delegation head announced that together with my co-delegates, I will be going to Boracay the following day. During that night, I can hardly sleep.

I can't forget that date-February 18,2006, when I took my first step on one of the most wonderful tourist spots and the country,s pride-the Boracay Island. It was also when I had my most wonderful experience as a student. From Kalibo, Aklan, I rode on a van for an hour until I reached Caticlan. From Caticlan, I rode on a boat for fifteen minutes going to Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan. I was immediately fascinated with its white sand, its beaches, and its people. Together with my other student-delegates, I had my shopping at the "Tiangge" and I also had my picture-taking at La Carmela de Boracay, also near the Ferris Wheel and near St. Michael's restaurant. When noontime came, I ate my lunch facing the beach and I sat on the white sand. After lunch, I went swimming on its crystal and sparkling waters and had a lot of fun there. I also treasured my funny moments at Boracay. One of these funny experiences was when the teacher coach of my co-delegate called a little American girl and said that the doll one should come with us and take a pose. Then I noticed that the little girl didn't react at all, but her parents, her brother and sister laughed. It is just then that I realized that the reason why the little girl with a doll-like face didn't listen to the teacher's call because she thought that she was called "the dull one". Upon realizing this, I laughed out loud and my companoins laughed too! Then the teacher ask permission to the little girl's parents to have a picture-taking together with their three children, me, and my co-delegates. Luckily, they granted her request. When it was 4 o'clock in the afternoon, my chaperon decided to go back to Kalibo. As I am walking going to Station 1 where the boat was waiting, I collected some pebbles and took a bag of white sand secretly so that I would not be caught by the residents there and so that they wouldn't let us pay P500.00 for punishment.
My experience at Boracay Island was absolutely very great! Even for a short period of time, I was able to enjoy myself watching its white sand, sparkling waters and the golden sunset. i know that there's a need for me to treasure these moments. I firmly believe and agree what Leigh Ann, my co-delegate said during the trip, "We should treasure our moments here in Boracay because money would just come and go, but memories remain.
